When you start exploring Oros in earnest, there are points of interest you specifically want to head towards. Rather than fixing radio towers or destroying a base like in Far Cry 3, you’ll have to take over outposts and light bonfires in Primal to expand the map and have new fast travel locations.
Located at the back of your cave, you’ll find some piled rocks. It’s a system that tracks your progress. Don’t worry, when you approach them the game will prompt a translation so you understand how far into the game you are. It’s super important to religiously complete rescue missions and bring more Wenja people to your village.

I think I've seen two or three of them in the wild only by chance when I checked rivers before crossing. Same thing with the striped wolf. Tips on stealth (Primal) Looks like you are looking for some tips. Stay crouched. Otherwise walking around and jumping makes noise, enemies will try to check. You are detected slower when crouched. Hide inside foilage, you will be detected very slow. Or hide behind solid rock or wall. Keep your companion out of the way.
